TUT Rauma Research Unit carries out research in selected areas of wireless communication. Research concentrates on the following areas:

WABS, Wireless Automated Building Systems

Short range wireless communication in building and logistic systems

  • Ultra low power wireless sensors
  • The open manufacturer-independent Kilavi platform for wireless building control
  • Unobtrusive measurement of space utilization

RFID, Radio Frequency Identification

Using RFID in logistic systems for identification and monitoring purposes

  • RFID tags in challenging objects, such as paper reels or packages including metals and liquids
  • RFID reader antennas and RF front-ends

TUT Rauma Research Unit began its work in spring 2001. Rauma Research Unit works under the department of Electrical Engineering in Tampere University of Technology. The work of the unit is based on the research and the development of wireless communication in different areas. The unit works in close and successful collaboration with other research groups in science and in industry. The industry benefits from the co-operation with enhanced R&D know how. Scientific work is converted to international scientific publishments, conferences and Ph.D. studies. Also the regional attraction, viability and development are important values in the work of the Rauma Research Unit.

In addition to co-operation in Finland, Rauma Research Unit has international co-operation with many universities all over the world such as University of California Berkeley’s (UCB) Berkeley Wireless Research Center (BWRC), MIT, UCLA, Villanova University, University of Mississippi, University of Rome Tor Vergata and University of Bologna.
